In the winter of 2020, Rovaniemi-based couple Inga-Maria and Tuomas Kylmäluoma decided to freeze an ice skating trail right in the middle of the forest. That simple but bold idea was the seed from which Kotatieva Winter Leisure Park started to grow.
The frozen trail, curving among snow-laden trees, quickly captured the hearts of locals. Word spread, and soon visitors from all over Finland began arriving to experience this magical place — a peaceful haven far from city lights and noise, yet only 10 kilometers from Rovaniemi city center.
A Family-Run Winter Wonderland
Kotatieva has grown into a small but vibrant winter park offering a variety of traditional and modern winter activities for all ages.
We are a family business at heart. Whether you meet an actual family member or someone who has simply become like family over the years, you’ll feel the warmth of being welcomed as part of our extended community.
Our mission is simple:

Kotatieva has been designed and built as ecologically and sustainably as possible, blending into its natural surroundings. Every activity we offer is nature-friendly, reflecting our deep love for the Arctic environment.

- A unique, 500-meter-long ice skating trail winding through the forest.
- Aurora Skating, where you glide under the stars — and if lucky, beneath the magical northern lights.
- Sledding hills for pure, timeless winter fun.
- Snowshoe disc golf, a quirky and joyful activity.
- Ice bowling, because why not?
- Cross-country skiing trails, for those who enjoy gliding through peaceful snowy landscapes.
- Snow play areas, where you can build snowmen, snow angels, and enjoy the simple fun of snow.
Whenever you need a break, warm yourself in our cozy Laplander’s hut by the fire, enjoy delicious food in our restaurant, or grab a warm drink and pastries at our café.
Aurora Skating — Under the Northern Lights
During our Aurora Ice Skating evenings, you and your private group can skate in the dark, silent forest, surrounded by lantern-lit trails and the vast northern sky.
Far from light pollution, you’ll have a clear view of the stars, the moon, and — if the skies allow — the northern lights dancing above. It’s a truly unforgettable way to experience Lapland’s magic.
